Take Time To Watch The Lizards

I feel I am one of the lucky ones because I live in a partially rural area. It was zoned for horses. I am not sure if it still is, because I see less and less of them around lately. I thought it would be fun to adopt a wild donkey and go for walks with it. Maybe I could train it like a martial arts donkey or attack trained donkey. However I do not know the first thing about the care and training of donkeys.
At Christmas my father gave me a birdbath and I put it outside my office window. It was fun watching all the birds who would stop by for drinks or a bath. That lead to getting a bird feeder. So now I have even more bird visitors. Even migrating birds are stopping by.
It is fun to watch the birds. I feel in this day when going to be out in nature involves a longer drive, added expenses, having to pack something to eat, not being able to take my dog, paying to park out in nature, wondering if someone will break into my car while I am out hiking…and anything else like finding a rattle snake in a bad mood; it is really easy to talk myself into staying home.
The older I get the less of natural woman I become. I wonder why. Maybe that is why pioneer women did not live too long, they just looked like they did.
So now I can have that bit of nature right outside my window.
I was talking to a friend in the St. Louis area of Missouri today when I saw this lizard in a tree. It is hanging out with the birds and is about as big as a house finch (fancy name for sparrow or I think they might really be in the finch family). It was really cool to watch this guy or girl.
Well the guy from St. Louis started telling me about his city encounters with Possum, Falcons, and rabbits in his back yard. They were definitely memorable experiences for him. It seems that talking about nature and your experiences (if even from your backyard), are always a common thread that draws interest. It is difficult to find people who do not enjoy sharing or listening to tale of tails or animal tail.
My father is an animal lover, and has donated more money to animal charities then I think he even spent on me. His yard is like a nature preserve with natural landscaping and plants to attract animals. It is so relaxing to visit there. I see beautiful landscaping in magazines and his landscaping can compete with several of them. He has a master gardeners degree and it shows. To me it is yard work, and to him it is gardening.
I think as long as he can be out in his yard he will always be happy. I remember growing up and he would come home from work and disappear in the yard. It was what he loved to do. When he was not working…oops, gardening, in our yard he would be helping other people with their gardening.
The person I was talking to from St. Louis is Charles, and he owns a company called Webfusion Opportunities where I am making extra money every month. I rarely include advertising in my encouragement blogs but when I use a program that is excellent I will definitely let my readers know. If you are looking for innovative advertising where you can even make some money so it does turn out to be free advertising I recommend a visit to Webfusion Opportunities.

Pretty cool post. I just came across your blog and wanted to say
that I have really enjoyed browsing your posts. In any case
I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you post again soon!
Nature in our gardens – we have wild rabbits in our neighbourhood that our doge loves to chase but will never catch. It’s almost a game for the rabbit. My neighbour has a wonderfull vegitable that the bunny loves to “play” in. So even in the city you can see a bit of nature.
Webfusion looks interesting. I’ll check it out

We are lucky enough to see kangaroos, cockatoos, kookaburras, rainbow lorikeets, blue tongued lizards, green tree frogs and even the odd snake (eeek!) in our back yard, as it backs onto a nature reserve. As much as the sound of the birds sometimes annoy me at 5am – I do appreciate that I live in an environment where nature is so close….

Fiona can I come visit you one day? Other than the odd snake, but we get them here, too, I would love to visit and see what a kookaburra is, and a rainbow lorikeet. It sounds like a lot of fun.
I live in the Mojave Desert, but the higher elevation so it is always interesting here because the mountains are close by. We have coyotes, rattle snakes, and others, the occassional toad, but not too often, and as I mentioned lots of lizards this year. It is fun stuff.
I grew up in Montana, and saw a lot of different animals there, yes in my back yard! Now I live in NC, and do not see quite as much, but still get an occasional rabbit and sometimes even a deer come up.
Many of our national parks are so popular simply because of the wild life that can be seen, so your joy is shared by many

I went kayaking again yesterday, and guess what? I had the camera, and this time it was charged fully. So guess what? No great blue herons sitting on top of buoys, no white pelicans (yes I did see a white pelican when I forgot to bring the camera). However I did see turtles, and a turkey vulture feasting on a huge dead fish (ick, had to stay upwind for that one), and that was about my excitement.
I will be adding the photos somewhere and including links for all to enjoy.
