I think that now more than ever a hand-written mailed letter has that much more impact than an email or a tweet or any other form of communication, because it is RARE! It is so much more personal and whoever is on the other end has to acknowledge the fact that the sender put in extra effort to make his communication stand out. This is one of the reasons the etiquette dictates sending thank-you cards (and not thank-you emails)!

Isn't it funny when you author the blog post and you title it but then when you revisit your blog and you see the title you wonder what you wrote. It is not that I am getting forgetful (where is my vitamin B12?), but it is just that to me this title looks like Remembering Old Fashioned Mall. I see that and that first "i" is looking too much like an "l". It will be only a few more days until my new glasses arrive. LOL.

You just nailed it. I haven't sent a real letter since the mid-90's. I actually think nothing compares to a written letter, but why is it that I have relied exclusively on email, ecards, facebook and twitter to keep up with my beloved family and friends? Maybe because getting to the post office in DC is a total pain! LOL

Seriously, I do send packages - special stuff, like care packages, and CD's and DVD's which I mail off, but I haven't written a letter to a family member or friend in more than 15 years. I need to get out the pen and paper and use the ol' John Hancock. Thanks for the inspiration.

A freind of mine used to have a picture of Einstien over his desk and the caption was "it's the thought that counts" I'll always remember that because he would look at it and thoughts came to him to call a freind or make a date to see his old aunt.

The thought does count but the action that follows is what really matters. Sending a real hand written card is a great idea

You are so full of lovely and insightful thoughts. I do send cards from time to time and I know how much it means to me when someone sends one my way. After reading your post I realised how simple this act of thoughtfulness is and that I should make the effort to do it more often. Thank you...

I sometimes resort to the online cards, but most of the time it is the old fashioned cardboard card in an envelope. That is how I prefer getting cards, so I obviously need to send them that way :P

And a huge THANKS to all our veterans, those serving now as well as those who served and sometimes gave their lives for our freedom.
