Red Cross Takes New Step In Fundraising For Haiti

I applaud the Red Cross in Southern California for making it easy for people to donate to the Haiti earthquake relief efforts. It is just so sad to hear more and more reports coming from Haiti. The ships are off shore loaded with food, but since the infrastructure is so poor there is no telling when the food will get to the people. These are some of the reports that I have heard today while driving on the freeways of Southern CA.

The Red Cross has set up donation centers in convenient locations next to major freeways. During the week there was one set up in Pasadena, and today there was one set up where the Anaheim Angles have their stadium. The radio stations were giving great directions for anyone who wanted to pull off of the freeway for a few minutes and drive through to donate whatever they could.

The one in Pasadena raised over 100,000 dollars. I am not sure what was raised in Anaheim. All of the money is supposed to go to Haiti. The news was interviewing some of the people who had stopped to donate. One person said that they had intended to donate but had not done so yet. They heard the announcement on the radio and felt it would be a great way to teach their children about helping out people from other countries, and about donating.

That reminds me of me. Sometimes I will intend to donate then this or that happens and it never gets done. Finally I rationalize that they must have had enough help by now. Yikes. It is hard to believe I think like that sometimes. So I made sure to get my donations in to Haiti early.

What about you? Can you pass up on something that you might spend some money on this week and kick that money over to help the people in Haiti? I enjoy participating in Bloggers Unite events and they are having an event for bloggers to get together to publish about Haiti and how people can help that country out.

On the Bloggers Unite site there are a few places listed where you can donate. The Red Cross is a trusted organization. I recently donated to Mission of Mercy after hearing them being interviewed on my local Christian radio station. I like what they are doing. You can make a one time donation, or you can sponsor a child.

The calls are going out for help, and the warnings are going out about the scamming organizations. When you donate choose an organization you trust. Here is the link for Bloggers Unite. They have a charity mentioned that you can donate to. They already have medical teams in Haiti, and can probably use financial help to get critical supplies.

One other way you can help is to join in at Bloggers Unite and post about the needs in Haiti, so more people can find what you are saying and join in on helping.
