Some people believed that vultures transported the souls of the dead to the spirit world. For a few months last year I worked in an office complex that was a sanctuary for gray vultures. They were beautiful when flying. Often they would sit on the wide outside window sills and you could look at them face to face. They were beautiful up close, too. In the spring the fledgelings were huge! They were as big as the full-grown domestic ducks that lived in the lakes on the campus.
