Helping Haiti

With so many charities saying they will help Haiti, it is sometimes difficult to choose where to send your dollars to help. Many people around the world are feeling the effects of the economy, and to dip into their already tight budget to help those less fortunate might really be a sacrifice. However we do hear stories of people making extreme sacrifices to help those in Haiti.
Last night I heard there were lots of television stations having broadcasts as fund raisers. I did not watch television last night because I was sick and went to bed right after work. So I missed it.
Some people hesitate to give to a nation that is not their own feeling that charity begins at home. I am sure that every nation has a lot of need and charities to give to for homeless, hurting, starving, diseases, animals, and environment. We have to be compassionate to the suffering of those around the world no matter where we live.
If you can help with a donation here is a charity that has been helping in Haiti for years. This is an email that they sent to me. Other great charities are Doctors Without Borders. Visit their website to see how much of your money gets to the actual non administrative costs. Not a whole lot of charities will put that on their sites.

Is Haiti beyond hope?
Like much of the world, right now our focus at Mission of Mercy is on this devastated country. We’ve been in Haiti for years, and we will continue to be there to help people rebuild both their lives and their cities.
We have responded to this disaster. Our Medical Mercy team is running a trauma clinic in Port-au-Prince right now, supported and strengthened by your prayers.
For more up to date information and to see a video message on my past experiences in Haiti, go to our website www.missionofmercy.org/haiti now.
Thank you for continuing to pray with us as we minister to these desperate people.

All donations no matter how small..combined can really make a difference. The people of Haiti have a long road ahead to rebuild not only their homes but also their lives.
I heard on the news today that Haiti is expecting to have more aftershocks over the coming weeks.
There have been some amazing miracles of people still being pulled from the wreckage alive. We need to open our hearts and our purses towards Haiti to help them on their way to healing.
